Salon des Grandes Complications: World’s top watchmakers come to Dubai

The emirate gears up for an exclusive horological exhibition, the Salon des Grandes Complications, from November 25 to 27 in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

“As the leading importer of luxury timepieces in the region, the UAE is a natural location to host an exhibition of such a calibre and we are excited to be presenting the first annual edition,” says Nader Freiha, organiser of the event, in a recent statement.

The event aims at attracting watch enthusiasts to view unique timepieces and understand the work and history behind them.

Participants of the exhibition include A. Lange & Söhne, CVSTOS, Greubel Forsey, Grieb & Benzinger, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Montblanc, Piaget and Vacheron Constantin, among others.

“Salon des Grandes Complications will bring together some of the greatest horological masterpieces of today, and the masters who make them, for the first time under one roof in the UAE,” explains Freiha. “Guests will encounter a hands-on experience of the heritage, craftsmanship and artistry behind the brands and their commended timepieces.”

While the Middle East is an important market for watch manufacturers, the ‘watch culture’ is not quite there yet.

“When you look at the Middle East, I think there are certain steps we should still take; we are not yet where we should be,” explains Patrik P. Hoffmann, CEO of the Swiss watchmaker Ulysse Nardin.

The trade show, taking place next month, will bring together both professionals and the public, educating them on the watchmaking industry today.
