According to Dubai Tourism, the emirate’s hotels also recorded total revenue of AED12.74 billion ($3.4bn) in H1 2014, an increase of 10.9 per cent from AED11.48bn ($3.1bn) last year.

“The first half of the year has been really positive for Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates. It has seen an increase of 3.6 per cent in occupancy, when compared with 2013, as well as an increase in the average room rate of 3.2 per cent,” adds Nasser Fawzi, its director of sales and marketing.

Dubai currently boasts a total room stock of 88,680 hotel rooms and hotel apartments; an additional 7,188 rooms will be added, as 31-plus hotel establishments to set to open by the end of this year.

“Our strategy continues to be about positioning Dubai as the must-experience family destination. As such, we are constantly diversifying our tourism offering and increasing our hotel portfolio to attract and cater to a broader market of visitors,” says Helal Saeed Almarri, director-general at the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing.

A range of high-profile events that were conducted earlier this year, such as the Dubai Shopping Festival, Dubai World Cup and the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, resulted in a heavy influx of tourists and visitors from around the world, skyrocketing visitor numbers. We can only hope that it will continue well into the second half of 2014.
