Dubai: Number one favourite luxury destination
According to YouGov research, the top three favourite luxury destinations are Dubai, followed by Europe and finally Switzerland.
“Luxury clearly has a home in the Middle East with Dubai ranked in top spot as the preferred upscale destination,” explains Nadege Noblet, exhibition manager of Arabian Travel Market (ATM), in a press statement.
With a typical total spend among online respondents for their last holiday at $8,310, according to YouGov, the average trip length stands at 5.1 nights.
“Today the definition of luxury is strongly dependent on the perspective of the traveller,” explains Scott Booth, travel & leisure research director at YouGov, in a statement. “With no universally accepted definition of what luxury travel is, brands need to truly understand what luxury means to their customers in order to be successful.”
According to YouGov, the top four strongest associations with luxury travel are:
- First class
- Cruise trips
- Five star accommodation
- High expense
While 69 per cent of respondents to YouGov’s research state that they define luxury travel as five star accommodations, at the hotel, participants stated that they require a good view from the bedroom and fine dining restaurants.
“Interestingly, 77 per cent of respondents said that they were likely to book an all-inclusive luxury holiday package, which is an area of opportunity that many Gulf destinations have yet to explore,” explains Mark Walsh, portfolio director for luxury events at Reed Travel Exhibitions, in a press statement.
With so much interest in the luxury travel market, and relaxation still taking priority when 4 out of 5 participants travel on a holiday, the industry does not seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
