Galeries Lafayette showcases FFWD designers in Dubai

Fashion Show.

Seven designers from Fashion Forward Dubai (FFWD) have been selected to showcase several looks from their collections at Galeries Lafayette, The Dubai Mall, throughout October.

This initiative marks the installation of the first-ever dedicated FFWD pop-up boutique at the upscale department store.

Selected looks from the designers’ Fall/Winter ’15 collections, which had been previously presented at FFWD’s last season, are on sale at the store from September 30 till October 27.

The labels include: Aiisha Ramadan, Arwa Al Banani, Bouguessa, Daneh, Lama Jouni, La Terre Est Folle and Said Mahrouf.

“Having Middle Eastern labels recognised and supported by such a huge force in retail shows not only the levels of talent the region has, but also proves the demand from consumers is growing,” Ramzi Nakad, founding partner of FFWD, said.

Michel Abchee, chairman and CEO at Galeries Lafayette Dubai spoke to Aficionado on the sidelines of the event, explaining the motif behind such a partnership.

“Galeries Lafayette is always looking for young, talented people and tries to group and promote them. We did this quite few times since we opened and it proved successful,” Abchee said, adding that it was naturally also beneficial to the designers who went on to promote their designs elsewhere from the Galeries Lafayette platform.

Buyers from Galeries Lafayette have selected the FFWD labels without a set criteria being put in place for the selection process.

Trying to explain this, Abchee said that, at Galeries Lafayette, “We really look for talent, new things that are not imitations or remakes of existing products.”

“If we detect a trend or a potential one, a new product, concept or design, we go ahead and select them,” Abchee added.

Fashion Forward Dubai launched in 2009, bringing a progressive ethos to the region’s fashion scene. The bi-annual rounded event brings catwalk shows and presentations by couture, ready-to-wear and accessories designers from the region, in addition to industry-related discussions and d3 Fashion Talks at Dubai Design District.

The upcoming FFWD event will be held from October 22 to 25.
