Fashion Forward Season 4: What to expect

Fashion Show.

Taking place from October 4 to 7 at Madinat Jumeirah, FFWD aims at showing the regional fashion industry in a new light.

“From the beginning, looking at different platforms, we said we didn’t want to get into a purely fashion week platform that is primarily commercial,” says Ramzi Nakad, co-founder of FFWD. “We looked at where the industry is and felt as though a developmental angle is probably more appropriate for the region.”

While regional favourites, such as Asudari, Endemage, Essa, the Golkar brothers from The Emperor 1688 and Tahir Sultan, are returning for season four, FFWD will also welcome new names, including Emirati designer Farha Al Shamsi, Dubai-based House of Hâshé and Iranian designer Maral Yazaloo.

Here are’s top five picks for FFWD S4:

  1. The Garden open party – The first event of the season, introducing FFWD’s guests to both the Garden – its accessory and jewellery area – and the rest of the prestigious event.
  2. The Emperor 1688 – The three British-Iranian brothers will present their most recent collection on stage this year, created using fine fibres and fabrics from European mills.
  3. Beyond Social Media talk – A lecture by the London College of Fashion that will touch on next year’s trends for fashion business professionals.
  4. Tahir Sultan – The Kuwaiti-Indian womenswear designer will present his most recent creations, focusing on attention to detail and glamour.
  5. The State of the industry – A panel discussion about where the fashion industry is at the moment and where it is going, moderated by Haleh Nia, the founder and editor-in-chief of Savoir Flair, which includes panellists, such as Nadine Kanso from Bil Arabi, Noor Tehini from Savoir Flair, Bong Guerrero from FFWD, Nathalie Trad and Razan Alazzouni, from their eponymous brands.
