Harvey Nichols launches pop-up shop in Mall of the Emirates

Harvey Nichols launches its ‘Anthropology of Design’ pop-up shop for six weeks in its branch in Mall of the Emirates.

In collaboration with Dubai Design District, the pop-up boutique was launched earlier this month and will display the latest collections from regional up and coming luxury fashion designers including British-Pakistani designer Marina Qureshi, Omani sisters Lubna and Nadia Al Zakwani’s Endemage, SW7 by Mariam Bengali, Dubai-based designer Aliya Tair and many more.

With a five per cent increase in luxury spending between 2012 and 2013, and Middle Eastern markets representing six per cent of the global luxury industry, Dubai has taken a strong stand as the region’s foremost luxury market, representing a whopping 60 per cent. With such a large percentage of the luxury fashion industry stemming from the region, it is becoming more and more important to support regional talent.

“You must support regional talent,” explains Asil Attar, CEO of Lead Associates, in an interview with earlier this year. “We encourage that kind of support internally, because they are the people who represent the region. We encourage new talents to work based on the mindset that, first, you must build a reputation in the region, and then you will be able to go out into the big world.”

She continues: “More retailers should adopt emerging designers and buy their products, because we are an import region, and therefore customers usually focus on international talent, instead of our own regional designers.”
